Training While Traveling

If you’re traveling during the holiday season and you want to continue your work-out regimen while away, the following exercises will help you stay on track while away from your home gym.  By exercising while away, your body will thank you when you return and you’ll be ahead of your own personal goals!  The bible says the hand of the diligent will bear rule.  This is a great opportunity to be diligent in your health and bear rule in your body.

If you plan on staying in hotels during the holiday season, most hotels have a Fitness Center where you can maintain and do what needs to be done.  Regardless of what type of cardio you are accustomed to doing, you can get the blood circulating with any treadmill, bicycle, or elliptical machine.  If you plan on staying with family or friends and these luxuries are not available, there’s still hope for your heart!!!  You can walk, jog or run around the community where you are staying.  If the outdoors is not your preference or the weather is not permitting, try jumping rope, or jumping jacks.  If there is a hallway you can walk, by pacing back and forth for approximately 15 – 20 minutes.

There’s really no excuse when it comes to exercising while away from home.  Yes, the distractions will be there, but you can do all things through Christ which strengthens you! You are more than a conqueror.  With this mind set, you can make this holiday season the healthiest ever.  If you’re anything like me, and you like travelling light, don’t concern yourself with bringing your free weights, medicine balls or resistance bands.  Be creative and use what’s around you.

If you pack as if you’re going to be gone for six months, feel free to bring it all.  By having your own jump rope, resistance bands etc. with you, your training while travelling will be as if you’re on your own training ground.  Once you’ve warmed up and gotten your cardio in, you can get a great arm work-out with a gallon of milk or water.  It’s just enough weight for resistance.  You can curl, lift and extend. If free weights are available, do your thing! I’m sure there will be a chair available where your triceps can benefit.  If so, use the chair for tricep dips.  For your chest, you can do chest presses on a wall.

God is so good that it’s free to be fit! It shouldn’t hinder you if there’s no gym and it shouldn’t discourage you if you’re the only one exercising during the holiday season.  This is your health and if you don’t do it, it won’t get done.  Make training while travelling fun.  Don’t treat your work-outs like an assignment that you dread, treat them as rewards to yourself.  Don’t forget to put the word in your work-out.  III John 2 says “Beloved above all I wish that you prosper and be in health even as your soul prospers.”   Have a heart after God and fulfill His will for your life.  His word is His will and as you see, He wants you healthy.
